1

What is the CIDB?

The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) is a government body that regulates and promotes the South African construction industry. It ensures contractors meet certain standards and helps connect them with public and private sector opportunities.

2

Do I need to register with the CIDB?

Yes — if you're a construction company wanting to apply for public sector projects, government tenders, or larger contracts, CIDB registration is a must. It’s also often required to qualify for construction-related compliance documents.

3

What are the benefits of CIDB registration?

CIDB registration gives your business credibility and opens the door to new projects. Once registered, your business is listed on the official CIDB contractor database and the i-Tender system, where you'll receive tender alerts for work in your category and grade.

4

What CIDB grade will I start on?

Most new businesses start at Grade 1, which qualifies you for smaller public contracts. You can apply to upgrade as your business grows and completes more projects.

5

Can I apply online?

Yes — our entire process is digital. No paperwork, no queues. Just fill in the form, make payment, and we’ll take care of the rest.

6

What documents do I need to apply?

To apply, you’ll need:

  • A registered company

  • Your CSD (Central Supplier Database) registration number
