For

South African companies updating their registered CIPC address

Your registered office address is where CIPC, SARS and other authorities send official notices — annual return reminders, compliance letters and legal documents. If it's out of date because you've moved, you can miss critical correspondence and fall out of compliance without even knowing.

Smartbook updates your registered address at CIPC quickly and correctly. We draft the resolution, file the change and confirm the update, so your official record matches where your business actually is.

When you need this

Update your registered address when you:

  • Move your business to new premises
  • Change your registered office or postal address
  • Find that CIPC or SARS notices are going to the wrong place
  • Are tidying up company records before finance or a tender
  • Took over a company with an outdated registered address

Common questions

How long does an address change take?

Around 10 working days once we have your details. CIPC turnaround varies and we follow up on your behalf.

Why does my registered address matter?

It's the official address CIPC and SARS use for all correspondence, including compliance notices and legal documents. An out-of-date address means you can miss important letters and fall out of compliance.

Is the registered address the same as my trading address?

Not necessarily. The registered office is your official CIPC address; your trading address can differ. We update the registered (and postal) address on the CIPC record.

Do I need to tell SARS as well?

Yes — SARS keeps its own record. Once CIPC is updated we can point you to the SARS update, or handle related SARS admin as part of your compliance.

What do you need from me?

Your company registration number, the new registered and postal addresses, and a director's confirmation authorising the change. We handle the resolution and filing.
