What causes delays
Name rejection. The single biggest cause. Every rejected name restarts the reservation stage.
Reserve four names, ranked. BizPortal allows up to four choices in one application, and CIPC works through them in order. Submitting one name and hoping is how a three-day registration becomes a three-week one.
Document problems. Uncertified IDs, IDs that are unclear when scanned, or details that do not match the identity records.
Director verification. All directors must be verifiable. Foreign directors take longer because passport verification is a manual step.
Incomplete information. A missing address, an unallocated share split, or an incomplete director detail sends the application back.
CIPC system availability. Occasional downtime and year-end backlogs are real. Registrations submitted in the second half of December routinely take longer.
Registering without a reserved name
You can register a company using its registration number as its name — for example 2026/123456/07.
This is the fastest possible route, because it removes the name approval stage entirely. The company is registered in days.
You can add a name later by filing a name change, and you can trade under a trading name in the meantime.
When it makes sense: you need the entity urgently — for a contract, a bank account, or a tender deadline — and the name can follow.
What happens after registration
Registration is the start, not the end. Several things follow and each has its own timeline.
